Data in Media
Solving complex data challenges for major broadcasters
Established broadcast distribution businesses have been disrupted by the rise of modern rival video content providers.
All major broadcast companies now look to online streaming as the future of their business. Over the last five years they have made improvements launching basic catch up services and converting some content to rich, demand driven and personalised.
But they still have some way to go to catch up with the disruptors and secure their future.
Solving Data problems For Broadcasters
Key Issues
Established broadcasters face technical and organisational challenges that their disruptive rivals do not.
In common with most long standing, complex organisations they struggle to manage their data, modernise their technical estates and attract relevant talent. Over time data has become siloed, stored in heterogeneous formats, forgotten about, degraded.
At the same time, data has expanded exponentially attracting new levels of compliance and regulation making some of these challenges beyond human scale to solve.
Solution
An established global broadcaster commissioned the Pivotl team across four of our data phases – Data Foundations, Data Engineering, Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence.
We designed a Data Centre of Expertise with associated governance, architecture, tooling and talent frameworks by building and coaching data pipeline teams to aggregate and serve rich data capabilities to the continuous improvement and development of productionised machine learning environments.
Outcome
The tangible legacy of the work was improved recommendation systems, higher streaming quality, optimization of production costs and expansion to global audiences. But additionally, and perhaps more importantly, the establishment of a broad based data culture and the introduction of new talent and ways of working.
